Today is October 1st and do you know what that means? It means - TopicsExpress

Today is October 1st and do you know what that means? It means bon fires, dried corn in the fields ready for harvesting, fall festivals with shows, crafts, music, candy corn and candied apples. My favorite candied apple would be caramel with nuts! And the most important thing about October is HALLOWEEN, October 31st!! Christmas and Halloween are my favorite times of the year.. Why Halloween you ask? It all started when I was a child. My Moma loved these two special times of the year and since she brought us up celebrating these holidays, I continue to carry it forward and continue to love and celebrate them. She would walk around the neighborhood with us and Maxine, Luis and I would dress up in our costumes and say “Trick or Treat”! After our time was done when we aged out of Trick or Treating, then came our children. Moma used to make Halloween costumes for the grands and great grands. She was a very talented seamstress. Moma would make these round orange trick or treat cake pumpkins and donate them to a school that was having a Cake Walk to raise money, and they were a big hit! I would enter the grands in the best Halloween costumes in The Robesonian and they would have their pictures of all the entries in the paper. Then there was the Halloween Parades! Moma would take all the kids and let them be in the parade and when I could get off of work, I would be right down there with them. I would dress up for Halloween for my kids and grands and to wear to work at Southern National Bank. I loved to give out candy , scare the kids and do lots of laughing and smiling. When we moved to Bee Gee Road, there wasn’t a lot of kids in the neighborhood, but I would still give out hot wheels, money, and candy. Then when Melanie lived in Godwin Heights, she would have big Halloween Parties and invite friends and family and I would stay at her house in my witches costume and scare and give out the candy! The love for Halloween has passed down generation to generation. I start decorating and celebrating the first of October. So BEWARE of my pictures and posts this month because I am celebrating Halloween all month long! I can’t wait to see all of the kids this year! What should I be this Halloween? You just wait, and guess and enjoy my crazy Halloween pictures and posts! BOO!!! Happy Halloween Y’all!
