Today is Tuesday, September 17, 2013 Today in American Revolutionary War History 1778 - Mohawk Indian chief and British Loyalist leader Joseph Brant led a surprise attack on German Flats, New York. Every house, barn and mill was set on fire. The town was virtually empty due to a warning from Adam Hemler of a pending attack. 1781 - American Colonel Daniel Brodhead was replaced as the commander of the Western Department under charges that he had mishandled finances. He was later cleared of most charges and was made a brigadier general by George Washington later that year.
