Today is Veterans Day. A day set aside to remember peace after WWI, later a day to remember the sacrifices made by our veterans after WWII lest we forget. There are nearly 20 million U.S. Veterans today. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs estimates that nearly 131,000 of these veterans are homeless on any given night. It is also estimated that we lose a veteran every two hours to suicide, nearly 5,000 a year. Today when you are thanking a veteran I ask you to remember those veterans. The veterans who came home and the war never ended, the veterans who are homeless, the veterans contemplating suicide, as well as the veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Today I thank all veterans past and present, every branch, willing to make sacrifices for my freedom. I thank the families that stand behind and hold down the Homefront while their soldiers are away. I thank the parents who watch their children enlist and deploy. I thank the children who watch their parents leave and come home. Today as we thank our veterans let us also consider ways of making a change, helping our veterans. Lest we forget...
