Today is a bitter-sweet day in our house, our 2 oldest sons have gone, JR back to Colorado to football & school (and hopefully some part-time, revenue generating employment) and with him our son Tyler. This is Tyler’s first experience with the “away from home” situation, and ours too in that matter. I always thought, like most of us parents do, “ I CANT WAIT TILL YOUR OFF ON YOUR OWN”, but the truth & fact of the matter is, in direct retrospect, this time came really fast. That’s not to say that it shouldn’t happen or that he is too young but when it happens, WOW. The saving grace is that he has his brother, and his brother ( if you know him ) is an outstanding young man with great integrity, who I feel will continue to be a terrific role model by keeping the bar high and making those around him rise to the occasion, as this will elevate them. JR has taken on a serious leadership role in Tyler’s life as they journey together, he will be showing him the ropes of life and my hope is that Tyler will “toe-the-line”. J is not only taking on his own situation, but stepping up to help his brother find himself, look for work, get moved in, register for school, find a job, get his driver’s license, get a job, acclimate to the small town life, and did I mention, “find a job?” Tyler graduated high school this year and is ready to get his life in gear, he is charming, witty, smart, handsome and generally good natured, he will, would/ could be a great addition to whatever he commits to, it’s the committing part that has me nervous. It seems hard for the young people of today to comprehend that “you don’t start at the top”, you start as the swamper, the dishwasher, the busboy, the detail/lot attendant. You do the dirty job that the low-man on the pole does when starting out. Too many kids coming out of high school & college have bought into the liberal/progressive bullshit that what they think & want is paramount in existence, and that they are all special in their own way, and as long as you just try, then life will give you a trophy for just showing up, well, I can’t speak for anyone but me when I say, that’s crap! When starting out you need to prove yourself, keep your head down, eyes front & mouth shut. If someone wants your opinion, they will give it to you. Know that the guy, who is directing you how he wants the job done, knows how he wants it done, so cover the job, and get it done. You will eat a bucket full of dirt before you die, this is a fact, and the way of dealing with it for me has always been “portion control”. As somber as the mood around our home is today, it is also an exciting time to think that with the grace of GOD another one of my boys is on his way to becoming a MAN, and not just any man, but a man that you can count on & have faith in, someone who when he tells you it’s Green, its Green and not brown… GOOD LUCK TO BOTH MY SONS, KNOW THAT ABOVE ALL THINGS THAT YOU ARE LOVED BEYOND MEASURE, HAVE FAITH IN GOD AND IN THE ABILITIES HE HAS GIVEN YOU, BE GOOD TO EACHOTHER & HELP OUT WHERE YOU CAN, AND REMEMBER, WHEN TO THINK YOU HAVE IT BAD AND YOU CAN’T GO ON, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WHO WOULD CHANGE PLACES WITH YOU IN A SPLIT SECOND, BECAUSE IT’S NOT AS BAD AS IT SEEMS AND THIS TOO SHALL PASS…. YOU MOTHER & I ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU BOTH…. BE SAFE ON YOUR JOURNEY……… DAD
