Today is the 11th anniversary of the death of country music legend and semi-Florida resident Johnny Cash, one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century. Cash was a frequent visitor to Port Richey on Pasco County’s Gulf coast, where his in-laws – fellow country music legends Ezra J. “Pop” Carter and “Mother” Maybelle Carter – had purchased a house in 1962. In his song “Orange Blossom Special,” the Man in Black summed up his sentiment for his adopted state: “Well, Im going down to Florida, and get some sand in my shoes.”
