Today is the anniversary of The death of Joseph and Hyrum Smith. These paintings and stories are really good. It really shows well the perspective of how Joseph Smith truly was a Martyr. Anti-mormons try to say that he wasnt because he used a gun at the jail and he jumped from the window to save himself. I say, along with these stories, that when his brother Hyrum was shot, he realized that because the mob was after him, his brethren were in danger. They were over by the door trying to keep it shut and deflect the guns. So he went there first to try and get them to leave. Standing right where the guns were poking out, shooting into the space. Then when that didnt work, He went over and jumped out of the window right into the frey...where all of those mobsters were waiting. Thinking he was trying to run away is ridiculous. He and the other men had seen all of these men outside the window. He was trying to get out into the mob to get them to leave his brethren alone. There is a little known moment in history that also shows this. When he left Nauvoo to turn himself in, he tried to get the others to stay there. MANY went with him. Not just the three who ended up in the jail with him. When they saw the men up ahead waiting for them, he begged his brethren to go back. He said he was going alone. They refused. Then he had an idea, and sent some back to Nauvoo to deliver a message, so he was able to get some to leave. Then he rode his horse hard to the waiting men, trying to leave the others behind. But they followed. They would not leave their prophets side. When they reached the army men, They still refused to leave and the army men started stabbing them through their boots with bayonets. Until their boots were filled with blood. Josephs brother was one of the ones stabbed. It may be one of the factors as to why he died later. Joseph tried over and over again to protect his brethren.
