Today marks the beginning of National Hispanic Heritage Month and I wanted to begin the celebration by recognizing the important presence of the 45 million Hispanic and Latino Americans in the United States, in the state of Florida, and to the Palm Beach-Treasure Coast district I am so proud to represent. Those of Hispanic origin have had a profound and positive influence on our culture through their strong commitment to family, faith, hard work, and service. As we celebrate over 500 years of the rich and diverse history of Hispanics in the United States, we also must acknowledge how these groups have played a pivotal role in helping move our nation and economy forward. While we honor the cultural traditions and unique contributions of Hispanics and Latinos in our communities across the nation this month, we must also recognize the fundamental need that ALL American families should be given the opportunity to succeed this and every month.
