Today marks the one year anniversary of the start of the October 2013 Bushfires, where all Emergency Services worked tirelessly across NSW to reduce the impact and loss of life and property for those affected. St John Ambulance were mobilised and provided crews to assist NSW Ambulance and NSW Health in evacuating nursing homes throughout the Blue Mountains, and providing health services at evacuation centres. Blacktown Division were active for the full duration of the Bushfire Deployment, assisting with the evacuations and staffing a evacuation centre at Hawkesbury. Today we should all take a moment to spare a thought for those affected by the fires, who a year on are still trying to rebuild and get on with their lives.
