Today, my colleagues over in the Senate took up the issue of equal pay for equal work. It’s hard to believe we’re still having this debate. Fifty years after the Equal Pay Act of 1963, women receive just 77 cents for every dollar earned by a man. Not only does this put a woman and her family at a financial disadvantage with each paycheck, but it also means her retirement gets short-changed over the years. The Paycheck Fairness Act failed several minutes ago in the Senate, but we must keep up the fight. It’s time for Congress to support legislation that makes gender-based discrimination a thing of the past. #PaycheckFairnessAct
