Today my ultimate top of the bucket list life long dream of actively participating in running the 261 came true. For the record, these pictures are the tail end of me actually keeping the engine running (maintaining pressures, controlling the fire, water height, etc) not just for show. I was in the cab from about 10:00 AM to roughly 5:00 PM. I was given the opportunity to be up in the cab participating in the work necessary to keep the engine going while switching and running down the mainline. I was able to apply what Ive learned and control the pressures, water height, and boiler (steam) pressure while sitting, shoveled while in motion, and received an intro lesson in firing the engine while moving. Although this is entry level work, its a great start, and I hope to keep continuously learning more and earning my way up, this was a great start though! I felt like I was where I belonged.
