Today, one of the prominent schools of Lucknow organised a cleaning drive in the backdrop of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan on the the streets of Lucknow. I was very much overwhelmed to see such young school students, in huge numbers, having banners and placards, and gathering public eye towards the necessity of keeping our surroundings clean, which would ultimately lead to a cleaner India, devoid of any diseases. But, on the contrary, the road traffic of Lucknow was severely hit leading to a long queue of vehicles due to the fact that the school buses had thronged the major street that connects Parivartan and the Hazratganj crossings. Do such campaigns or initiatives hold any importance, if on one hand they intend to create awareness and on the other, they are disrupting the traffic to the extent that causes so much of inconvenience for the commuters ?? As, Lucknow already witnessed sudden rains today, I assume, many of the school going children might have faced problems to reach their homes due to the congestion on roads. To protect and improve the natural environment... is our Fundamental Duty and this is what we learn in the late primary and early middle school classes. And, on this note, I would like to share a fact with you all. The same school, which organised this drive, has projected a very opposite image in the past. Once, I was on my way to a market, and I saw its school bus was moving ahead me. The school students were throwing wrappers of biscuits, wafers and other food stuff through the bus windows. And, when I overtook the bus, I noticed that there were not only students, but the teachers as well who were very much present in the bus. Now, is it the way one protects the environment??
