Today was Dadabhai Naoroji 189th Birth Anniversary. Who was he? Dadabhai Naoroji (Hindi: दादाभाई नौरोजी) (4 September 1825 – 30 June 1917), known as the Grand Old Man of India, was a Parsi intellectual, educator, cotton trader, and an early Indian political and social leader. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) in the United Kingdom House of Commons between 1892 and 1895, and the first Asian to be a British MP.[1] Naoroji is also credited with the founding of the Indian National Congress, along with A.O. Hume and Dinshaw Edulji Wacha. His book Poverty and Un-British Rule in India brought attention to the draining of Indias wealth into Britain. He was also member of Second International along with Kautsky and Plekhanov. Every year we gather at his statue & pay tribute to him. This event is organized very well by the Corporation more saw since the BJP headed it. Since last 20 years I am attending this regularly. My secular friends of Congress have no time for the founder. I am sorry to write this it may offend them but this is a hard fact. Anyway the function went very well & thanks to Dr Hitendrabhai Patel Standing Chairman it went very well. By the way he was also PM of Baroda in 1874 & was elected in British Parliament from Finsbury Central on Liberal Party ticket. Pls read more about him on Wikipedua. Lat but not the least the BUST was donated by my grandfather Pirojshah & our organization donated the laser light there.
