Today was not a grand occasion, not a birthday or anniversary. I did not wake up expecting a special event or celebrations. And it was in fact a very normal day. Nothing happened today that doesn’t happen on so many other normal days. Yet, (oh I like that word). Yet, as I look back on my day, I’m struck by how terrific normal can be. Because of a little success at work, others will be able to do their jobs better. What a blessing to enjoy what you do and help others at the same time. Evie called and offered to join my coworker and I for lunch. The laughs and smiles were as filling as the meal. I love sharing my wife with my friends because she improves their impression of me. The dinner Evie lovingly made was a family staple. Something we have had countless times. But even so, today it hit the spot. Every taste was a delight. It matched my mood, and satisfied completely. And there is something mysteriously blessed about sharing a meal with those you love. A prayer of thanks, a taste born of love, a story shared, the spice of life. Brandon plays everywhere at once, but never far away. He disrupts and clamors and spread chaos with finesse. But he repents sincerely and loves deeply. As this dynamo wiggles at my side, I relish his presence. Papa as dad is a tiring job with wages beyond measure. This ordinary day was nothing less than a treasure. Thank you Lord for common normal days like today, for hidden in them are some of your greatest blessings.
