Today we had a great discussion with my mum about non-substance related addictions. If for example a religion can become one. Also we talked about how ones vocabulary limits her philosophy, discourse and ultimately world. An ideology can be spotted by overuse of certain core words and concepts. What would happen if you deleted for example 200 frequently used words from your vocabulary or added another 200? How would it change your life? Also we discussed technology related metaphors. Can we compare religion to a program/application that runs in ones mind and sometime is conflicted with other applications? For example god is a word that can carry many concepts and meanings. Is God more like an all-encompassing platform (facebook, cloud) or like an actual omnipresent being? The mind/body duality is in my opinion a very simplistic concept. One cannot place cognition firmly into brain alone. The whole body and its environment are inseparable to thinking. Can we actually perceive someone as human without his body? Therefore digital assistants that sound like human (e.g. Siri) didnt become very popular. Also Silvo told me today that he liked the Black Mirror episode Be Right Back that was about not just digital but also physical recreation of lost husband much more than the movie Her that was about love towards a program with female voice.
