Today we popped over to a new Café which has opened up in Histon, Cambridge for some lunch. St Andrews Church Café opened about a two months ago (you probably remember me telling you about it then). Its a lovely welcoming place were the staff are quite clued up about allergies and intolerance (but always worth checking when there). In fact they know a lot about going gluten free as Diane (ex-Treasurer of the Cambridgeshire Group of CUK) has been advising them. The Café offers an extensive menu of hot and cold food together with great hot and cold drinks. They provide an inclusive menu of items catering for most common allergen-related dietary issues. Unfortunately they had run out of GF cakes when we went (all credit to the chefs baking skill) the GF cakes are so popular that even those not Coeliac are denying us Coeliacs....ggrrrr. So we thought wed try something as we where already there. We had a American coffee and Hot Chocolate, thick cut bacon sandwich with salad and a Histon pork sausage with fried onion sandwich which also came with salad. They used Genius seeded bread (not my favourite and a bit dry) A simple lunch and was lovely...just wish I could have a GF cake :). They have various things which are gluten free e.g. they had GF chili (beef mince so no good for us) as the special (they have a different one everyday), but still there had other things we could have had. Its a quaint little place where you can sit inside or outside, a well thought out building. If you want to know more check out their website... standrewscentre.org.uk/index.php/cafe/
