Today we take a moment out of our lives and give thanks to the Veterans of our country past and present. Service and sacrifice go hand in hand. Some have made the ultimate sacrifices leaving behind grieving loved ones. Others have had their innocence stripped from them leaving them wards of the state. But many more have passed through the fires and returned to become the leaders of our communities. Their oaths live on, and defend us from all enemies foreign and domestic. To be a Veteran is badge of honor there are many trials and vantage points that civilian life just does not offer. However we should consider the need for veterans. Currently we have more than 600,000 back logged cases with the Veterans Administration that will take at a minimum 18 months to process. 22 Veterans commit suicide every day, this is not acceptable. Our influx of veterans stems from our participation in war. America is involved in at least 7 wars right now and has more than 900 military installations in 134 countries. Our sons and daughters are the greatest possession our country has. It is my hope that we are able to serve those who have served and create a world where their service can be more in peaceful times than warring times. Semper Fidelis.
