Todays Devotion Belt of Truth Ephesians 6:14 So stand - TopicsExpress

Todays Devotion Belt of Truth Ephesians 6:14 So stand firm. Put the belt of truth around your waist. Put the armor of godliness on your chest. The Bible says the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus Christ is Truth. The Word of God is Truth. The Holy Spirit is Truth. If we are to stand up to the evils of the world, we need to have the Truth in our hearts. Reading the Bible, accepting Jesus Christ as our personal Savior and receiving His Holy Spirit will give us what we need. Because people have no godliness of their own, they must have the godliness of Jesus Christ in their hearts. On the surface, the belt seems like an insignificant piece of the armor. Some will overlook the belt since it can’t be used as an offensive weapon and it isn’t going to protect you from the enemy’s fiery darts. The belt, however, Is a vital part of the soldier’s armor. Allows for better mobility. During times of battle it is vital that the warrior is able to move about freely. Its hard to fight someone with your pants down right? During Paul’s day, a soldier would wear a tunic, similar to a woman’s nightgown today, and would need to pull it up (gird it) to create what we might consider a pair of shorts. The belt helped secure their undergarments and would allow them better, more secure, mobility during battle. You wouldn’t want to be worried about how secure your clothes were during the heat of battle, so it was crucial that the belt held in place the garments of the warrior to avoid them being distracted while fighting. (Think about the purpose of a belt today) Holds the sword when not in use. During times where a soldier was not using their sword, the belt provided a convenient resting place for it, allowing them easy access to it when necessary. Think about a Tool Belt, It can hold multiple items that help you work better. With truth and integrity in our lives, we will be free to fight the battle and not get distracted. While many might find the truth restrictive, a true soldier will recognize the freedom and ease of mobility that comes when we have truth in our lives. It creates a heart which is receptive to the word of God. Just as the soldier’s belt is a storage place for the sword, a heart that is truthful and sincere will desire the word of truth, will seek it out, will handle it properly and will always make sure that it is ready to use truth in defense of our lives. Paul is talking about an attitude of truthfulness. We will see, from our lesson today, that Paul is encouraging the Ephesians to live a life of truthfulness, sincerity, integrity and faithfulness. In support of this interpretation we see that Jesus is said to have faithfulness as the belt of His waist So Today I encourage you to use the Belt of Truth in your every day life.
