Todays Piss-assary: Yes - I have an Indian face - and yes, I tend to have what one would call an All Indian Face. I know this. And I am fine with it. I am also fine with Indians (really anyone but it happens mostly with Indians) comes up to me and starts talking to me in their native tongue. I politely say I dont speak that language. I understand - I have had the All Indian Face for a long time. What I am NOT ok with is when people get annoyed and/or down right UPSET with me when I dont speak the language they speak. A lot of comments fly about being an ABCD or non patriotic… There are well OVER 30 language spoken in India. My parents happen to be from South India and I speak ( and well) Kannada. I AM a proud American who has a cultural identity she is NOT confused by. I AM a proud Hindu who knows and worships AFTER understanding why and what she wants to do. PLEASE DO not walk up to me, speaking your language and when I ever so I POLITELY tell you that I dont speak that language, ACCUSE me of being an ABCD. I am proudly American Born and DESI but I am not confused! NOTE: The Elderly get excused from this Piss-assary rant. ALSO NOTE: This happens to me everywhere - i think it just happened 3 times this week and it set off a nerve.
