Todays #badpoem continues my cheerful apocalyptic theme. I think its an early winter thing. The title is Endangered Species Act. The tornadoes started to get bad Right about the time Aunt Betsy shot the mastodon. She left the butchering Uncle Hiram And went indoors to watch the local news. Down at the station, one girl had kept a box of crayons. The on-air talent plied her with cheap drinks, Got her to make posters, one after another, Elegant aquamarine arcs showing the mismatch of cold fronts and warm, Angry orange blots where tornadoes had touched down, Black hashmarks for fatalities. Man, the guys were proud of those posters, But did they give the girl credit? Never mind. She got the last laugh, Crawled out of the rubble, Joined Hiram and Betsy beyond city limits. Imagine that. A girl who till then thought hunting Took place in Aisle 5, sports drinks, juice and tea. Together, those three watched the cooking smoke, Caught up in the whirlwind, Rising black in a spiral toward the sky.
