Today’s Reading and Devotion: Proverbs 12 12:1 Whoever - TopicsExpress

Today’s Reading and Devotion: Proverbs 12 12:1 Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid. I don’t think anyone would say that they “love” discipline, but really, discipline is a major contributor to the development of a person. Discipline in and of itself is course correction. Discipline gives us the ability to change our minds, to reshape ourselves and to really understand. How many of you when you read discipline thought of a spanking? I did. So here’s a definition: Discipline: Learning that molds character and enforces correct behavior; from a Latin word meaning “instruction” or “training.” To discipline a person or a group means to put them in a state of good order so that they function in the way intended. Discipline is the means by which what we learn is molded into who we are. Knowledge is one thing, but when people hold us accountable, when we hold ourselves accountable and submit to God’s design for our lives… these are the people who love knowledge. When we surrender our own will for the sake of living the best way possible, God’s way, we embrace discipline. Following Jesus is the same way. Ravi Zacharias made an incredible point in a speech I listened to recently: “It’s not because we are lacking evidence that people choose not to believe in God. It’s the implication of that evidence that usually creates the difficulty in people.” Truly believing in God will require submitting yourself to the process of discipline. Believing in God will change your life, your desires and the choices you make. He will mold you and shape you in many ways, but one of those ways is discipline. Some people cannot and will not change. Today, live with a mindset that God is shaping you daily into who He wants you to be. If it requires discipline, take it, because a loving Father disciplines for a reason. Then respond to the discipline the way He is calling you to. In the end, you will find yourself closer and closer to Jesus. What a beautiful thing discipline is.
