Tomorrow I will be in Orangeville to attend the funeral services - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow I will be in Orangeville to attend the funeral services for Doreen Young. She was a group member here and I first met Doreen on April 5th of 2014. Doreen came into our Wellington presentation at break time and came straight to me. She had a bag of things which had belonged to her father including his Barnardo Bible and his Second World War flight log book. I didnt understand why she was giving me these things, so I hugged her to give thanks. When my arms went around her, Doreen started to cry. She told me that she had just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and didnt know how much longer she had to live. Doreen asked me to care for her fathers things for her and to help ensure his BHC story stays alive. The BHCARA will be making a memorial quilt in the future, I told Doreen a couple of weeks later that a square would be dedicated to her father and asked what she would like on it. She gave me these photos and asked for pink carnations. Dawn Heuston put this together for us using photos I took of the items. These items are now with the Canadian Museum of History and have opened the door to inclusion in an exhibit at the War Museum in Ottawa. Dawn Young, thank you for accepting my friend request, we can keep in touch and work together in the future to ensure these items are cared for and used as your mother wished. I am deeply honoured to have been trusted by your mother, she touched my soul that day. Although I did not know your mother long, she will always have a special place in my heart. We have lost three very special people recently, Pauline Lamble-Clark, Rita Attard and now Doreen. All taken far too early. Life is precious. Doreens last words were tell everybody I love them.
