Tomorrow is the last revenue flight for for Airtran. I flew as a commuter on Airtran for seven years, back and forth between Baltimore and Charlotte every week. Sometimes twice a week. When Southwest bought them I was happy. Sure, there has been some growing pains involve. But overall, I have had the pleasure of getting to know many new Co-workers, who have Airtran on their resumes. Although I havent been on a Airtran flight in over a year, there isnt a week that doesnt go by that I dont work with a former Airtran employee, work on a former Airtran jet, or fly to a city that came from Airtran. Airtran will be with us, here at Southwest Airlines. Three and half years after the purchase, Southwest has grown from 30,000 to 46,000 employees, the fleet has grown from 550 to almost 700 planes, and we now fly to 94 destinations. When I started we flew to 52 cities. Before, Southwest never flew out of the lower 48, now we fly to destinations in 6 countries and Puerto Rico, with more coming in 2015. The stock was at $8 and now it is $40. This year we are poised to make well over 1 Billion dollors in profits. (I love our profit sharing plan). The future is bright for my employer, partly because of Airtran. I am sad to see Airtran go. Those employee shutting off the lights will soon be Southwest employee. I am glad to have all the opportunities that it has provided us. Airtran will always be a fond memory in my career. Goodnight Airtran.
