Tomorrow, weather permitting I will start the section in ceramics - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow, weather permitting I will start the section in ceramics where I teach the students how to throw on the potters wheel. I am reminded of the many times that I have taught this lesson and the mistakes I have made and the mistakes that the students have made on the wheel. I so often will take the mess the students make on the wheel and I will sit down and reshape, reform and turn it into a beautiful bowl. I then will tell them, that no matter how many mistakes they make and how horrible those mistakes may be, that it can all be repaired! I tell them mistakes are natural, but repeating the same mistakes without learning from them is not! There are many life lessons in art, like above and the lesson in watercolor when we discuss the stains on our lives and how some can be removed and others through change can be made beautiful! I tell my students that this not just an art class, it is life 101, where we learn how to communicate with and work with those that normally we would not associate. We learn how to care and love each other, how to criticize in love and how to see the needs of others before ourselves! Just as the Heavenly potter is still molding me, I in turn work daily to try to mold these young lives in a positive way, to help create something beautiful, to help create potters that can go and reshape the world:)
