Tom’s Post 18 Sep for Stage 55 Pulaski County to Troutville, - TopicsExpress

Tom’s Post 18 Sep for Stage 55 Pulaski County to Troutville, VA We’re on our continuing journey up the Shenandoah Valley, generally heading northeast. After trailing alongside Interstate 81 for awhile, we finally moved into the countryside, and it continues to be beautiful. There was a morning mist again, and as we rode along the road the mist clung to thousands of round spider webs strung out along a wire fence. There were thousands of webs, and they went on for over a mile. At lunch we stopped at the neatest pizzeria in the town of Christiansburg. They had a pizza buffet with a salad bar, and the food was terrific. The place was packed with people and for good reason. They made all sorts of pizzas, even desert pizzas with chocolate. We headed out of town to the east and went south of Blacksburg, the home of Virginia Tech. Passed a large dairy farm near the town of Catawba. There was a large group of cows lined up along a food trough outside a barn, and there was a lot of mooing. The amazing thing was that their tails were swinging back and forth in sync. Our goal for the day was to make it to Troutville, a small town located along the freeway, I-81. We rode through rolling terrain all day, with several big climbs as the elevation chart shows. It was actually a lot of fun cycling here. We went 81 miles and finished by about 5pm, and we were a bit tired.
