Tonight I cut a chewie egg that was due to hatch and was looking - TopicsExpress

Tonight I cut a chewie egg that was due to hatch and was looking pretty ugly. The shell was very poorly calcified and came from a first time breeding female that only gave me one fertile egg all season. Before she was paired, she laid 3-4 dud eggs, afterwards she laid one fertile egg, and then laid another dud after. The baby that came out is severely deformed. It only has one eye, the jaw is misaligned, there is a small kink in the back and the tail has some kinking. My first thought was to cull the animal, but when I picked him up and realized he was clinging onto my finger as normal as he could. I decided that he should be given a chance. He doesnt appear to be suffering in any way, and walks and climbs normally, considering his condition. If he survives, I will make him available for free to a loving pet only home. I will be picky as to where this little guy goes because he is not to be bred under any circumstances. Will post photos tomorrow. M
