Tonight, the BSBO education team was in action at the Oak Harbor Rockets football game! In 2013, at the urging of BSBO education team member Tiffanie Hayes, Benton-Carroll-Salem (BCS) Schools made a commitment to the Oak Harbor community and agreed to no longer allow balloon releases at any of their facilities, pioneering a litter-free campaign throughout the district. As a result, the Students Against Balloon Releases (SABR) program was formed through an education partnership with BCS Schools and Black Swamp Bird Observatory. Tonight, in celebration of this partnership and the school districts decision to be litter-free, SABR donated 100 cheer poms and handed them out to students attending the Rockets Homecoming game! A special announcement explaining the significance of the cheer poms was read over the loud speaker during the game! By eliminating balloon releases and creating a cleaner and safer environment for all of our residents, the BCS School District is paving the way for other school districts to follow. Thank you, BCS Schools and Go Rockets! (Special thanks to Scott Arvin for designing our awesome SABR logo!)
