Tonight there was a lady at my show. I dont know her name but weve met once before. She danced and sang, regardless of her stance and situation. She lives on the streets of Chicago. And although she made about $0.70 today, she stood at the doorway of my show smiling and dancing in her permanent hunched formation; caused by what appears to be osteoporosis. She was asked to leave the area. While I understand the reason behind it, it still breaks my heart to see someone so eager to feel Life again, and feel the happiness of being surrounded by joy and music and people, and then be neglected to experience that same joy because of being homeless. I will see her again. Probably next week. And I plan on helping her feel Life again in anyway I can. Whether it be buying her a meal or giving her my tip money or simply leaving my spot on stage to dance with her on the sidewalk. Tonight she hugged me and told me she loved me through her tears after being asked to leave. So before you walk passed a person on the street. Maybe ask if theyd like anything from 7eleven or Starbucks.. Or $5 because if you were going to get something for yourself chances are you can afford more than one. And it could help make someones day, week, month or even year.
