Tonight was the CLC Workers of Colour caucus meeting. It was a place for workers to come together and have real talk time with sisters and brothers that had more in common than some may have assumed. Sister Marie Clarke Walker extended thanks to the CBTU and others for what our Chapter has done for her and workers of colour. The sister aught to make a correction. It is the CBTU that should be thanking her. She and all other activists that have seen beyond the curtain and dragged other workers of colour to centre stage. To the grown up table. Over the past 20 years, we have fought hard to make a place for ourselves in the labour movement as leaders and advocates, and are over 280 strong at this CLC convention. The CBTU continues to support the strong and positive examples of union leadership we were surrounded by tonight. Our principles of walking the talk, and being held accountable to the community, WILL continue; through tomorrow and each day after that until our collective voice is heard and valued EQUALLY. The movement called for diversity. There were many eloquent words spoken about recognising the needs of a diverse membership, and wanting diversity in leadership this week. We are more than willing to provide the movement with those diverse candidates. Its up to you to cast your vote to accept them. If you are a black trade unionists looking to continue the fight, not just with pretty words at a convention but way beyong election day, come..... join us. cbtu.ca
