Topic: Service workers, police-like workers, ideological workers. The thing about service work in general is that it is something of the polar opposite of classical factory work. In an idealized factory, the owner only wants to get a particular kind of labor out of a person and they dont care about anything - just n widgets per hour or day etc. In an idealized contrast, the service worker in a boutique sells their own imagine and who they are along with the commodity theyre selling. A related kind of labor is something like ideological labor - a secondary school teacher inject both learning and discipline into their students. While some of this learning has some general usefulness, a lot of this is making kids into conforming members of capitalist society (something that may indeed benefit them in the immediate term). Moreover, the difference between the simple service worker and the more ideological worker is porous. The consultant of the large and small seems to express this fusion - the worker who rises to consultant tends to teach and sell their being simultaneously. Now, its worth noting that the present order is certainly working energetically to lower the wages of all sorts of service workers and ideological workers. The question is how worker in these circumstances can rebel ?
