Tornado in USA on Wednesday, 22 October, 2014 at 03:49 (03:49 AM) UTC. *Mistaken as a strong storm for more than a week, we now know a tornado ripped through Gilmer last Monday. But, this week, the National Weather Service confirmed, that storm was actually an EF-1 tornado with winds gusting between 95 to 105 MPH. It touched down about six miles northeast of Gilmer. We talked to one man who was directly affected by the storm. Buck Ray and his wife live out in the country. Around 5 a.m. Monday morning, his wife thought she heard a loud truck outside their house. When Ray went outside a couple hours later, to his surprise, it was something a whole lot different. It just ripped it apart, said Ray. Rays barns were caught in the middle, but thankfully his house wasnt damaged and Ray and his wife werent hurt. Thoughts run through your head pretty good why the house was spared, weaker barns were spared, but anyway at least there was no fire, said Ray. He said its a miracle the flying debris from his roof didnt damage his neighbors house. Fortunately, everyone caught in the tornados path, survived without a scratch. At my neighbors house, a tree fell in the center of it, big pine tree went and spilt the house open missed the girl about two feet sleeping in the bedroom, said Ray. Now, comes the cleanup and repair. Some residents have questions about their homeowners insurance and if their policy covers tornado damage. Mary Ann Wylie, owner of Mary Ann Wylie Insurance, said your homeowners insurance will not go up when a tornado hits and yes if your house, shed, barn or property is damaged, your homeowners policy should cover it. But, its still a good idea to check with your insurance company. Homeowners policy does cover wind, hurricane and hail, which covers tornadoes, said Wylie.
