ToroTooth thinks... Just saw clips of video from a national news agency dentists conducting dental missions operation: libreng bunot. Though this kind of civic activity can benefit the lower income citizens like the urban and rural poor but the way the instruments are being handled (disinfection and sterilzation using chemical solutions) are below accepted standards. Though one dentist might argue that the way they sterilize the instruments follows the standard protocol practiced in private clinics this does not discount the possibility of transmitting bacteria, viruses to those willing patients. It might be harmful or not but nonetheless is nowhere near sterile. There should be strict guidelines on how to conduct dental mission specially sterilization of dental surgical instruments. The volume of instruments to be used must be tripled to that of the volume of patients to be treated not to mention proper lighting and patient positioning. Unless all mentioned above are met this author will not participate in free dental missions. RiKarDo
