Training Match Report - 31 August 2014 Venue: Scovell Reserve Maidstone United Mens 4 Vs Maidstone United Women’s and coaches 2 In what was an enjoyable and entertaining training run for both sides, Senior Mens coach George Maikousis took the initiative to create a match between the league leaders in their corresponding divisions. The men dominated proceedings from the beginning with their intricate and smooth passing, but the girls held their own and the game was a stalemate. Ali Molai found Jaquelene Ghirxis silky skills far too troublesome and decided to mark her out of the game, but with Ghirxi still finding space, Alis teammates were in stitches. Some composed play and quick passing by the women showed their quality, but it wasnt enough as Nam Chau got on the end of some good lead up play to slot the ball between the bright yellow training poles. Not long after the men had scored, the women levelled. Some good work out of defence and through the middle by Jacquelene Ghirxi and Matina Vrettakos was rewarded as the ball found its way to the Womens coach who by-passed several mens players and tucked the ball away. The men continued to dominate through their pace and strength, but it was their accurate passing and movement that was most influential. The women defended with hunger and desire, but the men then scored three quick and consecutive goals and the most notable via a long range finish from a set piece by Warren. There were no corners in this game the ruling by the player come referee George Maikousis was three corners and its a penalty. The free kick count would have easily been favouring the women, as the biased referee was desperate for his side to find some advantage and get back into the game. Ghirxi stepped up, but due to some goal line antics from the cheeky men, the penalty was to be re-taken. Up stepped captain Helen Antoniadis who curled the ball through the six foot wide goal to make the score 4-2 and thats the way the game ended. It was a fun training session for all involved, and it was a great opportunity for both teams to get to know each other a little better and get a close up of each others game. Players who played in tonights game can vote for their man or woman of the training match by making a comment on this post. Well done everyone who participated tonight. A very enjoyable session.
