Travel conditions will deteriorate throughout our Friday. For some - TopicsExpress

Travel conditions will deteriorate throughout our Friday. For some in the northern half of Nebraska, its already rough this morning due to some early morning freezing drizzle. Areas north of a line from Broken Bow to Greeley to Albion are being impacted. As for snowfall, it will begin in the southwest this morning and move/expand to the northeast through the day. So the chance of snow will increase, especially this afternoon. For many, the main time frame for snow will come between noon and midnight. With north winds of 15 to 25 mph, blowing snow could at times be an issue. Winter Weather Advisories have been posted for post north and west of a line from Alma to Grand Island to Columbus and south and east of a line from Ogallala to Bassett. Its inside these areas where Im expecting anywhere from 1 to 6 inches of snow to accumulate. The higher 3 to 6 inches of accumulation are most likely for areas at least 50 miles north and northwest of the Tri-Cities. Im calling for about 1 to 3 inches around the Tri-Cities with lower totals to the south and east from there. As for high temperatures today...they wont be much warmer than temps this morning. Well see highs range from the lower 20s to the mid 30s from northwest to southeast. Snow will depart the area after midnight tonight and some clearing will take place by early tomorrow morning. After a few early clouds, Saturday should be mostly sunny, but chilly with highs in the 20s. Sunday should be around 5 degrees warmer with some increasing clouds ahead of our next system. That will bring a chance of light snow into the area Monday through Monday night. The bigger story will be the arctic blast that comes with it. Temperatures on Monday will mostly be in the 10s, but may actually fall a little bit during the day. Winds will also be blustery, bringing that wind chill below zero. Actually temperatures will fall to near zero by Tuesday morning. Highs on Tuesday will mostly be in the 5 to 15 degree range. Temps will then dip back below zero Tuesday night. Temps only recover into the 10s and lower 20s on Wednesday. Then well see another 10 degree jump on New Years Day Thursday. Conditions are expected to be dry Tuesday through Thursday.
