Triple-Header Friday Night Date! First, Phil and I went to the 5 p.m. screening of Non-Stop starring Liam Neeson at the Gaumont Champs-Elysées. Fun popcorn movie, glad we saw it on a big screen. Next was the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, directed by Myung-Whun Chung at Salle Pleyel. On the program: Henri Duparcs settings of poems by Baudelaire and others, sung by baritone Ludovic Tézier with the orchestra. Then Phils favorite piece of music: Beethovens 7th Symphony. Weve heard it performed many times, including by an orchestra of period instruments and by the Hungarian Radio Symphony in a tiny church in the Spanish Pyrenees, but this rendition ranked with the best of them. It sparkled! We capped off our evening with dinner at the nearby Thai Siam restaurant. Delicious, as always. Tonight were rendezvousing with our visiting friend Linda Jordan for dinner somewhere and music by the Christian Brenner Quartet at the Café Laurent. Love these three-day weekends!
