Troop 2509 kept very busy during the Fiesta San Antonio - TopicsExpress

Troop 2509 kept very busy during the Fiesta San Antonio festivities the past few weeks. The girls passed out recycle and trash bags to parade spectators before the Battle of Flowers Parade and picked up trash scattered on the ground as part of Keep San Antonio Beautiful. This program prevents trash from making its way into the San Antonio River, which eventually ends up in the ocean, harming the habitats of many animals and fish. The girls also participated in the City of San Antonio - Municipal Government Graffiti Wipe Out program, where they painted over graffiti in drainage channels down Culebra Road. The troop created mastectomy pillows for the Susan G. Komen foundation and will continue to make the pillows for the next year. The foundation provides pillows in care packages to newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. The foundation ran out of these special pillows and asked the troop to make more. They sewed more than 30 pillows in 2 weeks. The troop also walked in the Fiesta de los Niños Parade, representing Girl Scouts well. Total service hours over the last three weeks: 132 hours Great job, Troop 2509! What a great way to party with a purpose!
