Twas the day before state finals and all through the state, every marcher around has been looking forward to this date. The silks were hung on the 6 poles with care, in hopes the toss would be clean and everyone would stare. The children were nestled with their drill books by their side, with smiles and giggles that tomorrow we will be inside. With the band directors microphone finally put away, we can stop hearing them say one more time,and can march our best performance to seize the day. When out on the field there arose such a clatter, I left my practice room to see what was the matter. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear, six MCBA judges and a little green flag waving in the air. With a band dad driver so lively and quick, I knew it must be the MCBA Championship. More rapid than eagles the coursers they came, the band director called them out by name. On props, on tarps, on marimbas and sousaphones. Go drum line, go guard...the crowd is cheering for you all!! Have a great show everyone, remember I love you all! And then, in a twinkling of an eye, you heard from the booth MCBA is proud to present… you were ready to perform with clear intent. The band did not speak a word and went right to their show...in their music they told a story, and were in a world full of pageantry and glory. The band completed their performance and what a show it was, the kids had all smiles on their faces because of the accomplishment that they had just done.
