Twenty-six years ago this month, my mom and I were in a car accident that left her with broken bones and I in a coma for two weeks. I had to relearn everything, from walking to talking to eating. I still remember the kindness of the various hospital staff members in Sioux City, in addition to the extraordinary kindness of my school, family, and friends, and espeicially my mom, who as a young mother stayed by my side each and every day. I am always thankful that I am still alive, when the odds were not in my favor.
