Two year anniversary of my stroke. Know its boring for those stroke hasnt affected in some way. Please keep an eye on blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking and weight. If there is a TIA, my advice would be not to call it possibly a little bitty stroke, but to take the opportunity to view it as the precursor for the big one and aggressively treat it as such. Get answers. MRI doesnt show anything? Something was there; something happened. If the dr. doesnt help you, go to another one. I woke up a few weeks before my stroke with a dead spot on top of my left hand and a brief tingling in my lips. The tingling went away immediately; the dead spot on my hand remained. I had an MRI--negative and unremarkable. Was not told a diagnosis of TIA; was referred for nerve conduction study. I went on for the next few weeks without making any changes--wondered why I was so fatigued; kept smoking, overeating, overreacting to stressors in my life; kept my good humor though while joking that I was waiting on the big one. Maybe there wasnt anything I couldve done to prevent it--maybe it wouldve happened anyway/anytime/anywhere. Ill never know but as you can tell, Ive certainly put enough thought into it. I was happy at the time I almost died on the day after my 55th birthday. I was on vacation in KY, trying to see a moon bow over a waterfall and go to visit my great grandmothers grave. I didnt get to see either one of those but I have now lived another two years thanks to my hero husband Brad, who immediately got help by recognizing my classic signs of stroke--I got dizzy and lost my balance as my left side lost use; my left corner of my mouth drooped and the left eye looked out the side instead of straight ahead. And I was totally unaware that these things were happening to me. I apologize because two days from now is national Stroke Awareness Day...Ill once again post some stroke facts then.
