Type 2 diabetes rise in under-40s, says Cardiff research A study by Cardiff University has revealed a sharp rise in the number of people under the age of 40 who are developing type 2 diabetes. Between 1991 and 2010, incidence of type 2 diabetes tripled among the general population but the biggest increase came for the under-40 age group – who saw a 10-fold rise in the number of cases. The incidence of type 2 diabetes is increasing at a rapid rate due to obesity and unhealthy lifestyles, and the news that the biggest rise is occurring in young people is quite shocking. At SLIMMING WORLD we’re helping in the battle against diabetes in two ways. By helping our members to lose weight and live a healthier lifestyle we’re helping to reduce the number of people who develop the condition in the first place. People with diabetes are generally advised to eat a healthy, balanced diet based around starchy foods – something that is easily achievable with Food Optimising. Our research found that when members with diabetes lose weight with Slimming World, they find it easy to fit their individual dietary advice from their healthcare team into Food Optimising and an incredible one in four of them are able to reduce or stop their medication after losing weight with Slimming World. If you, a friend or family member has type 2 diabetes, and you would like to lose weight, healthily, Come along to our GIRTON Slimming World group, every THURSDAY 5.30pm & 7.30pm at The Pavilion, on the recreation ground, GIRTON.
