T’was the night before Judgment And all through the land Not a creature would lament Or helped lend a hand The people were nestled All smug and confined to their wealth With their sins they had wrestled Seemed satisfied with poor mental health And I knew it was coming But lay down to sleep Though darkness was looming I made not a peep The stars cast their shadows across the night sky From Spain to Iran and Moscow to Taipei A wind blew a song the Serengeti would sigh Said Lion to Tiger, “It is Judgment Day.” The moon in the sky became distant and dark As the souls of mankind lay empty and bare A silent trumpet did sound; heard by the Loon and the Lark The Almighty was coming but mankind did not care. They only prayed for redemption one day a week As a show of piety for all others to see For the other six days, in shadows they would sneak So on the last day they said “for my sins, God forgive me.” © 2008.
