UK Food Poverty. Did you see the fascinating programme on BBC about a dual income couple who struggle to feed their kids and are in food poverty with only £1 something per head for food per day. And a pensioner who has to make a packet of soup stretch across two meals. And a single Mum who eats cups of sugary tea for at least two meals a day so she can afford to feed her daughter. This last woman had lost 3.5 stone in the last six months because she couldn’t afford to eat. All of their fridges and store cupboards were bare. Three chefs go to stay for a couple of days in each household to see if they can find a way to cook for them and feed them healthy fresh food within their budgets. They can’t. No surprises there. Then they put on a Budget Banquet in London to draw media and political attention to the plight of those living in food poverty in this country - do watch. And let me know what you think? Eye-opener. I’ve been what I consider to be really hard up in my life from time to time – even relatively recently not always knowing where next week’s groceries would come from – but I’ve never had to count out my small change down to the last 1p and buy **** with zero nutritional value. Wonder what we can do to help, if anything? Might mooch around online today and see if I can find out the answer to that one. bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b036x3pv/Great_British_Budget_Menu/
