UNIJOS CONTINUES POST-UTME SCREENING, ASKS CANDIDATES TO DISREGARD ASUU Category: News Published on Thursday, 18 July 2013 06:00 Written by Onimisi Alao, Jos Hits: 60 Management of the University of Jos said yesterday that it would go ahead with the post-UTME screening exercise for the 2013/2014 academic session as scheduled. The university, in a public announcement signed by the Registrar, Barrister Danjuma Jilli-Dandam, said, “Management of the University of Jos wishes to restate that the on-going computer-based post-UTME screening exercise for the 2013/2014 academic session in the university continues as scheduled. Candidates eligible to participate in the exercise are advised to avail themselves of this opportunity to be screened for consideration for admission into the university”. It added, “Members of the public and candidates participating in the exercise are further advised to discountenance any contrary announcement from any trade union pertaining the ongoing post-UTME screening in the University of Jos.” The announcement assured candidates that the results of the screening would be out next Wednesday, July 24. The University of Jos is conducting the post Universities Matriculation Examination despite on-going strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The examination (screening) which commenced on Monday is being conducted by non-academic staff of the institution, a development which has been condemned by the university chapter of ASUU. Chairman of the chapter’s ASUU, David Jangkam, who addressed a press conference Tuesday, said the conduct of the post-UME was undermining the strike action by ASUU and that the non-academic staff had no powers to carry out the exercise under Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) and the University Senate rules on examinations which restricts the conduct and administration of examinations to academics staff.
