Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA’s services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions. For its local team, UNRWA is seeking to employ a qualified: Expert Roster -IS Help Desk Assistant Vacancy Announcement Number 13-RO-AM-01 Deadline for Applications 31 December 2013 Duty Station HQ Amman, Jordan The incumbent is responsible to Field Information & Communications Technology Officer or Head Information System Services Unit at HQ (Gaza), or IS Help Desk Coordinator, HQ (Amman) to whom s/he is assigned. In accordance with the established Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent will: Primary Duties and Responsibilities Act as a member of the Help Desk team and provide first line support services to all users of ICT, in accordance with established standards and operating procedures including the logging and maintenance of necessary Help Desk log information using available Help Desk tracking software; Provide first line Help Desk support services via identification and resolution/escalation of end user reported issues including hardware and software operational problems, access to data and computer resources, utilization of standard software packages and access to central Agency applications; Provide formal and on-the-job training on the use of computer equipment and standard software packages; Receive and install new end user hardware and software and maintain an up-to-date inventory of installed computer hardware and software; prepare survey reports for obsolete or surplus ICT equipment and supplies; Liaise with maintenance and service vendors to service hardware and supply minor equipment; Assist, guide and provide necessary advice to end user queries on access to and use of ICT services; Ensure proper installation and update of anti-virus software on all PC equipment and conduct routine check to ensure a virus free computing environment; Prepare and support necessary ICT services for various group meetings and conferences; Ensure closure of all incidents on time and report delays if any stating the obstacles/reasons; Assist in establishing video conference sessions over IP and ISDN. Professional Knowledge and Experience A university degree from an accredited educational institutions in information and communications technology, electrical engineering or a related discipline; Two years Help Desk experience in LAN computer environment providing user support and training; Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic. Competencies Ability to take initiative and maintain cordial relationship with all concerned; Ability to coordinate the work with others, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; Ability to understand rules, regulations and standards and to follow guidelines and instructions; Service oriented attitude; Ability to provide technical support over the phone; good telephone skills, professional demeanour. Desirable Qualifications Work experience with Windows XP/VISTA/7, PC technology and Microsoft Office2003/2007/2010 suite; Experience in conducting formal computer training; Experience or knowledge of UNRWAs operations and computer facilities environment. Additional Information The incumbent will be required to work outside regular working hours as work priorities demand. Remuneration Remuneration and other contractual modalities will depend upon the needs of the assignment and the candidate’s qualifications, experience and the level of expertise.
