UPDATE 06/23/13, 10:00 pm - The Rock Creek Fire is now 30 percent contained, according to the latest information from the Eastern Arizona Incident Management Team. Full containment is still expected by June 26. The fire did grow slightly Sunday. According to infrared flight mapping, the fire is now at 795 acres. Gusty afternoon winds helped the fire to continue burning within the perimeter, burning in needle cast and duff. Crews reinforced containment lines, focusing on stump holes where fuel continues to hold heat. Due to that work, the fire did not grow past the established perimeter. The R30 road is closed at Eastfork on the south end and at Diamond Creek on the north end. A Red Flag warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday due to high winds and low relative humidity. Winds are forecast to blow from the southwest from 13 to 20 mph, with gusts around 35 mph. There are 374 people working on the fire, including nine 20-person hand crews. Twenty-one engines and one helicopter are also being used. The cost of fighting the fire to date is estimated at just over $595,000.
