UPDATE (9/15): Tomorrow begins the sixth month of Aprils journey to recovery. The swallow test done at Madonna was not accepted by Meadowbrook. Therefore, April has not been given any pleasure foods for several weeks. She was taken to KU last week to do a new swallow test and, unfortunately, she did not pass it. That is a matter of prayer for us--that her speech therapists would consistently work on that with her so she can regain what has been lost and begin to eat her pleasure foods again. Aprils excessive tone is still an issue. Meadowbrook is working on new wrist splints and elbow casts to help her arms. She will also have an orthopedic appointment this week to address her feet. The tone has caused her muscles to contract in her feet and turn them at an unnatural angle. The splints she had from Madonna are causing sores and cannot be worn at this time. While at Madonna, David hired a massage therapist for April--to work on her tense muscles and help loosen her excessive tone. On his second visit he introduced us to a method known as Bowen Therapy. It stimulates the bodys autonomic nervous system to rebalance. Once this occurs, the body can initiate a healing response. We were only able to do two sessions before she was moved to Meadowbrook. However, he helped find a Bowen Therapist in Kansas who has agreed to work on April. She gave her a treatment this past Sunday. We are hoping and praying this is a tool God will use to unlock this tone problem. Thanks for your continued concern and prayers!
