UPDATE : COMPROMISE FOR MEDIOCRITY If you dont stand for something, definitely you will fall for everything, this is the situation the league organiser are finding themselves. They have allowed the cabal that organised and called themselves the club owners to intimidate them into accepting whatever decisions they want as if they are the one in charge. There are rules and regulations that were set aside for clubs to adhere to before a club registration for new season can be considered for acceptance, but every season all the laid down rules are swept under the rug and the league organiser we allow the kick off of the league with lip service paid to the stakeholder that all rules and regulations will be adhered to. Few of the rules and regulations that were set out and agreed by the clubs but were never adhered to are as follows; 1.4(4)They shall provide: 1. Evidence of incorporation as a Limited Liability Company with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). II. Bankers full address III. Operational and well equipped office with internet facilities. IV. Audited annual report. V. List of management and Secretariat staff with their designations. VI. Medical certificate of each registered player and official authenticated by league body recognized hospitals. VII. Signed copy of each player’s and official’s contracts with club. ARTICLE 1.8 – FEEDER TEAMS A}. It is mandatory for each Premier League Club to register a Feeder Team. The ages of the players shall not be below 13 years and not above 17 years. B}. The list of the Feeder Team players shall be forwarded to the league board during registration of players for documentation. C}. It shall be mandatory for all Premier League Clubs to allocate 2% of their total annual grant for the funding of their Feeder Teams. D}.The league board shall from time to time organize zonal competitions for the Feeder Teams as part of developmental programmes for the teams. ARTICLE 1.9 – CLUB MANAGEMENT 1.9(1)Club management shall be properly constituted with defined functions. 1.9(2)The management shall comprise of at least the following officers: Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Manager/Coach. Except the Technical Crew all members of the management shall hold office for a minimum of four years, renewable by the club. ARTICLE 2.4 – MINIMUM WAGE FOR PREMIER LEAGUE PLAYERS 2.4(1) The monthly salary for a Premier League player is negotiable: but shall not be less than One Hundred Thousand Naira only {N100, 000.00} per player. With all the stated conditions that clubs are to meet before registration is accorded them and yet 90% of the clubs falls to meet up the standard set aside and the league board can not enforce the rules as laid down. I believe the league organisers should wake up to its responsibilities and try to give us if not a perfectly organised league, something close to it. The clubs are aware of all these rules and strict application to it must be adhere to and the league board should stand its ground by not registering a club that fails to meet up requirements, even if its five clubs that meet up, with that we can go ahead. The thought of its business as usual with mediocrity giving way to standard measures must stop, and the league board must wake up to its duties.
