UPDATE ON DAVID!!! I think thier ears were burning, an email came 3 min ago! ) Continuing good news for Dave (Fri 8/8; post-op day 17) Inbox x Joanne LaCourse 3:54 PM (3 minutes ago) His lungs continue to clear: The doctors keep turning down the settings on his ventilator. Their current focus is reducing the pressure, now 8 (was 9 this morning, 13 yesterday, 15 the day before that). The oxygen is the same as yesterday (40%, compared to 100% on Monday). What a change from the maxed-out ventilator’s settings last Monday! He has improved every day now for 4 days in a row. Now that’s a trend I like. BTW, these improvements mean he is slowly getting ready to be weaned off the ventilator. Other good news: He is being taken off constant hemodialysis (because his lungs are not filled with fluid now). They will start conventional hemodialysis tomorrow (3-4 hours a day). At this point, he is in total kidney failure, but who knows, there’s a slight chance some might come back later. He no longer needs steroids or antibiotics. On Monday, his breathing tube will be moved to his trachea. This might make it easier to wake him up, because that would feel like normal breathing to him. He is still heavily sedated (propofol 35), with no neurological response. Tomorrow he’ll get a brain MRI, to make sure there isn’t damage that could prevent a “meaningful recover”, as they say so delicately. We are grateful for EVERY LITTLE VICTORY.
