UPDATE: STUDENT ASSAULTS Humberside Police have extra patrols in the Newland and University wards of Hull following four assaults in these areas between 1740hrs and 1930hrs on Tuesday 14 January 2014, However they are still encouraging people to be extra vigilant after dark and follow personal safety advice. In each incident lone males were approached by two or three men before being assaulted. In one incidents property was stolen from the victim. None of the victims were seriously injured. The suspects are described as white and between 18 and 30 years old. Some victims said they were of ‘stocky’ build, and it is thought they spoke with local accents. The incidents are as follows: • Falmouth Street, Cottingham Road, Hull - a 29-year-old man was walking down Falmouth Street between 1740hrs and 1750hrs when he was approached from behind by three unknown men. The he was then allegedly assaulted by the three men before running off. The offenders left the scene towards Ventnor Street. The victim received injuries to his left eye and cheek bone. Crime reference: DT/2020778/2014. • The Newlands, Cottingham Road, Hull at around 1750hrs - a 22-year-old man was walking along The Newlands towards Hull University at around 1750hrs when he was allegedly approached by an unknown man who asked him a question, before being grabbed by a second man from the rear who held him in a head lock. The unknown men and possibly a third man punched the victim several time before the victim managed to break free of the head lock. He then ran off onto Cottingham Road. The victim sustained minor injuries. Crime reference: DT/2020782/2014. • Walgrave Street, Hull – a 20-year-old-man was walking along Walgrave Street, Hull between 1810hrs and 1830hrs when he was approached from behind by an unknown man restrained him in a head lock. A second man then punched the victim to his body and head while searching his pockets. An elderly woman intervened and the offenders left the area without stealing anything. The victim sustained a cut to his head and grazing. Crime reference: DT/2020901/14. • University of Hull entrance on Inglemire Lane, Hull – a 22 year old man was walking along Cranbrook Avenue, Hull on his own at 1830hrs and as he approached the bus stop near the Lord Nelson pub he was approached by a unknown man who asked him the time, without engaging with the man the victim took his phone out and told him the time and continued walking towards the University of Hull. He was followed by the first man and two further men. At the gates to the University on Inglemire Lane one of the men pushed the victim to the floor and restrained him while the other two men searched his pockets and stole the victims Acer laptop with laptop bag, a black iPhone 5 mobile phone with black coloured case and a black 160GB iPod classic. The offenders then made off towards Cranbrook Avenue. The victim was not injured. Crime reference number: DR/2020791/14. Detective Inspector Nick Ram who is involved in dealing with the robberies said: “Police are continuing to investigate the crimes and at this stage, we are treating the suspects from all four incidents as the same group of three men. In order to identify these men we need the publics help and we are appealing for any information no matter how small about the incidents to come forward and contact the police on 101. “To reassure the public we are carrying out extra patrols in the local areas around Cottingham Road and Newland Avenue.
