USCG STATION DAUPHIN ISLAND The station is located in the Eighth Coast District, under the operational control of Commander, Coast Guard Sector Mobile. Station Dauphin Island is a result of combining Station Mobile, formerly at the Brookley Complex in Mobile and the Search and Rescue Detachment (SARDET) at Dauphin Island. After many years of planning, designing and construction, Station Mobile relocated to this current facility and officially became Station Dauphin Island in November 2001. Station Mobile was a tenant command of Base Mobile and occupied the building adjacent to Group Mobile that was once used by the Air Force as a crash boat station. Each year as the boating population increased during the summer months, Station Mobile moved its operations south to the SARDET at Dauphin Island. The new Station Dauphin Island has an Area of Responsibility (AOR) of approximately 1,380 square miles of inland and coastal waterways. It extends from the I-65 Bridge to 30 miles off shore of the barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico, including all of Mobile Bay, to the state borders of Florida to the east and Mississippi to the west. Station Dauphin Island proudly carries out all assigned missions, which include Search and Rescue; Law Enforcement; Recreational Boating Safety; and Port Security. Additionally, Station Dauphin Island regularly provides boat operations in support of Coast Guard Aviation Training Center’s training program. The station has two 41-foot utility boats and two 25-foot SAFE boats. The new station building has over 12,336 square feet of work and living space and was built at a cost of $ 2.75 million.
