USDA Rural Development to hold several events in region Events to celebrate funding of projects including water, geothermal and police cars USDA Rural Development State Director Terry Brunner will participate in several events in southeastern New Mexico on Thursday and Friday to celebrate the funding of various projects made possibly by his agency and to let the public know about the various programs offered by the agency. The series of events will include: Thursday, Jan. 22 Artesia at 11:30 a.m. — Presentation of a $4.2 million dollar certificate of obligation to the Cottonwood Rural Water Association. Funding will be used to replace an old water tank and to upgrade water lines and other equipment. The event will be held at the Central Valley Electric Cooperative office building located at: 1403 North 13th Street, Artesia, NM 88210. Artesia at 1:30 p.m. — Dedication of the new office complex for the Central Valley Electric (CVE) Cooperative. USDA Rural Development through its Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) provided $81,900 to offset the cost of installing a geothermal heating and cooling system in the facility. It is expected the new system will save over sixty percent in heating and cooling costs. The event will be held at the CVE office complex located at: 1403 North 13th Street, Artesia, NM 88210 Hagerman at 3 p.m. — Key presentation for two new police vehicles in Hagerman, New Mexico. The $96,500 loan/grant funding package was used to purchase the two new vehicles was made through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facility Program. The program provides financial support to government entities and non-profit organizations to buy equipment and to construct buildings Friday, Jan. 23 Roswell at 9 a.m. — USDA Rural Development open house at new Roswell Service Center located at 300 North Pennsylvania Suite No. 4. The open house is being held to let the public know the Service Center has moved and is in operation. The public is invited to come by the new office to meet staff and learn about the various financial programs offered by USDA Rural Development including; Business, Housing, Community Facilities and Infrastructure projects. Dexter at 11 a.m. — State Director Terry Brunner will hold a “Give your two cents to Terry chat session.” The intent of the meeting is to have the public give Brunner ideas on how USDA Rural Development can better serve the community with the financial opportunities offered by the agency. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the Dexter Town Hall council chambers located at 115 East 2nd Street, Dexter, NM 88230.
